Pastor Dorance Aldridge was born to Sarah and James Aldridge, on October 26,1951 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dorance graduated from Central High School in 1969.
Shortly afterward, he became a male model for fashion shows and print magazines. He later joined the Navy and got stationed in San Diego where he met his soul mate, Brenda Hubbard-Jackson in 1972. They were married on November 9, 1975. He assumed responsibility of being father of LaTonya and LaVell Jackson, and baby Aina Kizuwanda was born later.
The family enjoyed camping and fishing trips together. Durance’s passion was cooking, and could fix and create anything he put his mind to. After discharge from the Navy he became a heavy equipment operator. He received an AA Degree in photography in 1980, and later joined the San Diego Police Department where he was one of the first officers to share the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in schools.
After eight years of service he resigned from the police force in 1990 to pursue his wife’s dream of opening a restaurant; Brendory’s Southern and Cajun Cuisine. Brendory’s was located in Bonita and Brendory’s by the Sea in Imperial Beach. After several years of operation they closed the doors to sell Brendory’s Creole Sauce and Brendory’s Andouille Sausage in the Navy Commissary, Costco, Smart and Final, among others. Eventually, he returned to his passion as a chef for Marriott Hotels and later transferred to become Security Night Manager.
