Deputy Director Weiss served the San Diego Police Department from 2007 - 2018 and worked Central, Western, Traffic, and Communications Divisions. He transitioned to emergency management in 2018 and was the Deputy Regional Administrator for the California Office of Emergency Services, leading the State response to emergencies in the southern half of California through 2024.
Dan recently returned to the City of San Diego Office of Emergency Services, where he oversees plans, training, and exercises along with responding to emergencies in the city.
Prior to working for SDPD, Deputy Director Weiss worked 4 years with the California State University Police Department at Cal Poly, SLO, while attaining his degree in City and Regional Planning. He also holds a masters degree in Fire & Emergency Sciences from the University of Florida, and is a credentialed Emergency Manager for the State of California as well as holding various certificates from FEMA, CSTI, and TEEX.
He was a Charter Member of the California State Law Enforcement Historical Society, and has always had an interest in preserving and learning from the past.
