Deceased Name: Services tomorrow for Donnie Mack McCain, ex-police officer
Services for Donnie Mack McCain, retired San Diego Police Department detective, will be at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow in Lewis Colonial-Benbough Mortuary chapel. There will be a police escort procession from the chapel to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, where burial will be with full military honors.
Mr. McCain, 53, a resident of Golden Hill, died Thursday. He was a member of the San Diego Police Department staff from 1958 through 1976, when his health began to fail. He had worked in most divisions in the department, including narcotics, vice and burglary. During his retirement dinner, Chief Bill Kolender commended him on the number of convictions resulting from his "impressive number" of felony arrests.
After retiring, Mr. McCain operated a private investigation and polygraph service.
He was born June 21, 1934, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He worked two years with the Wichita Falls Police Department before joining the Air Force in 1952. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1956 in California, settled in San Diego and two years later joined the San Diego Police Department.
Mr. McCain received commendations from the Wichita Falls Police Department and various awards from the Police Department and the court system here.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 35 and was active in the Veteran Police and Fire Association.
He was a fisherman and a sports fan.
Mr. McCain is survived by his wife, Ella Patricia; a daughter, Linda Bess Pictor of La Mesa; a son, Larry Dean McCain of San Diego, and a sister, Cherry Dimeff, also of San Diego.
