Isaac ""Nick"" Nichols, 80, of Fountain, FL passed away at home on Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
He was born in Panama City to J.W. and Clara Mae (Bolton).
He was a 1959 graduate of Bay High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with distinction and completed three tours of duty in Vietnam. He made the Navy his first career, stationed in Chicago, IL; Vellejo, CA; and San Diego, CA. He retired from the Navy in 1979 with a ranking of Chief Petty Officer.
His second career was with the San Diego Police Department. While on the force, he became a crime scene investigator. He retired as an agent after 20 years on the force.
He moved to Fountain, FL in 1997. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing in his one acre pond, Turkey Shoots at the AmVets, building antique dollhouses, and spending time with his critters and family.
Nick loved to cook for fundraising dinners at AmVets and Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve and the VFW. He also held memberships in the American Legion and AmVets.
Nick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; his only son, James and his wife Denise of Massachusetts. He has two granddaughters, Ashley and Jacqueline, both of Massachusetts. Nick also has a surviving sister, Annie Merle Hunt and three brothers, Ottis, Foybe and Charles; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
