ID 8814
SDPD 05/14/1979 - 01/09/1999
10/28/1937 - 2009
James Haggard "Jim" Gamble died at home September 3, 2009, from complications arising during oral cancer treatment. Jim fought hard to defeat the cancer but was unable to ring the bell of victory that he so desired.
Jim was born October 28, 1937, at San Diego's Mercy Hospital. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1955.
Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged after completing his service to our country. Jim went on to work in the airline industry starting at Western Air Lines in San Diego. Later promotions sent him to Los Angeles as a Qantas Air Lines area sales representative. Jim also spent time in France teaching English to European students.
Upon his return from France he was employed with the San Diego Fire Department and later with the San Diego Police Department, from which he retired.
In retirement, Jim enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas, Charger games and lunching with friends and former associates from the SDPD. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and James Gamble. Jim is survived by his cousin Edward Hawkes and family of Centennial, CO, longtime companion Pat Cooke and the many dear friends he cherished over the years. Jim's personality endeared him to us all. His absence leaves a tremendous void in our lives.
