James Stark died at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle against cancer.
Jim was born in Missouri to Alfred and Helen Stark and raised in Iowa as the oldest of nine siblings.
Jim joined the Navy at 18 years old and was stationed in San Diego, making the city his home for the next 68 years.
In 1950, he married his beloved wife Joyce Landis; they celebrated 62 years of marriage before her death in 2012.
Jim was a veteran of the Korean War and joined the San Diego Police Department in 1953 as an officer and later a juvenile detective. In 1970 he became a founding police officer with the SDUSD Police Department until his retirement in 1997.
Jim was active in his church community, volunteered in youth sports and was a foster parent.
He was an avid bowler and enjoyed all sports.
Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and became a great-grandfather following his death.
He is survived by three children and their spouses: Sandra Robles (Joseph), James Stark (Bonnie), and Michael Stark (Patricia), his seven grandchildren, Mallory Stark, Jennifer Stark, Anamaria Robles, Tamra Stark Kessler, Michael Stark, Alexis Robles, Ariel Stark, and one great grandchild Joseph James Kessler. He is also survived by his foster daughter Marcy Wood, seven siblings and their spouses including his brothers Thomas, Alfred, Marvin, Kenneth, and Douglas, his sisters Janice and Rosemary, and many nieces and nephews.
