John Edward Donohue was born in 1930 in Weehawken, New Jersey, the son of Inez and Orva Donohue. He lived in Union City, New Jersey in 1930 and moved to San Francisco, California, sometime between 1930 and 1935. He served as a private in the US Army during World War II. 

He worked as a police officer with the San Diego Police Department for 19 yrs between 05-22-1952 and Aug 20, 1971.

He died on September 24, 2018, in Flathead, Montana, at the age of 88, from heart failure and end stage Alzheimer's dementia. He was buried in Missoula, Montana.
