She eventually met and married Garry C. Schkade whom she is also predeceased. Judie and Garry lived in the San Diego area for many years. She was employed by the City of San Diego from 1978-2000 assigned to the San Diego Police Department. While there she made many lifelong friends. Judie was involved in many assignments while with the Special Projects division, of these her most memorable was that of the establishment and design of the new SDPD Headquarters and subsequent substations.
Upon the occasion of her retirement, Judie and Garry enjoyed time living between Fawnskin, CA near Big Bear and also on Maui.

She was an active participant in both communities. In Maui Judie became a certified Naturalist with the Pacific Whale Foundation educating visitors on native sea life and one of her most favorite animals, the humpback whale. While in the Big Bear area she served as a dosent for the Discovery Center, volunteered at the Moonridge Zoo, and also was active with the Big Bear Women’s Club where was was a fierce cardplayer.

Judie was always active with something and enjoyed challenging activities. In her 50’s she obtained her PADI open water certification and in her 60’s she medaled in her age group in a 5K. She enjoyed travel to Alaska, camping with the Mountain Rovers, and donating to a local wolf sanctuary. She had a great appreciation for both classic and modern Rock n’ Roll music, enjoyed live performances, with Elvis being her all time favorite. Eventually she relocated to Parker, CO after the death of Garry and was active with the Parker Newcomers Club where she enjoyed playing canasta. Judie had a lifelong love of animals, especially dogs and wolves.

Judie had an amazing sense of humor, loved to laugh and play practical jokes. She also had an incredible love of life and for her daughters who she spent much time with and was fortunate to share many milestones with.

Judie died October 28th, 2018 after battling Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) for several years. Judie is survived by her daughters Jaimie Ann Wood and husband Clarence “Woody” Wood of Ozark, MO and Caroline Ann Schkade of Englewood, CO. She is also survived by her sister Jacqueline Fitzgerald and brother Christopher Sullivan as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dog Pal and her very special friends at the San Diego Police Department.

Judie and her daughters very much appreciate her “cop shop” friends continued contact throughout her illness as well as their cards, and calls; you were all very important to her.  A memorial service will be scheduled in San Diego to be determined at a later date.
