Lorenzo Ruiz Jr, 69, a retired police officer and a retired elementary school teacher, passed away on Saturday, December 26th.

Lorenzo was born in Flagstaff, AZ on December 26th and settled in San Diego, CA in February of 1978.

Lorenzo was a 1971 graduate of Flagstaff High School and shortly after joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. After the Army, Lorenzo enrolled at Northern Arizona University, graduated in 1978, and moved to San Diego, CA to join the Sheriff's Department.

Lorenzo’s law enforcement career continued with the San Diego Police Department in June of 1979 and injury in the line of duty forced him to retire in 1994. Lorenzo continued to service his community by becoming a beloved 6th grade teacher and later retired in 2009.

He was predeceased by his brother Paul Ruiz, and his parents Lorenzo and Carmen Ruiz.

Lorenzo is survived by his wife Mariaelena Ruiz, his loving children Alycia Ruiz Numkena, son in law Brian Numkena, his son Lorenzo Roman Ruiz, daughter in law Lynette Ruiz, his son Nicholas Ruiz, daughter in law Alejandra Gaona, his daughter Alexis Ruiz Ethington, and son in law Ronald Ethington.

He is survived by his ten caring grandchildren Alexia Ruiz, Roman Ruiz, Natalie Jordan, Isabella Ruiz, Anelise and Mia Numkena, Jovon Ethington, Madeline Ruiz, Dominique Numkena, and Audrey Ruiz.

Lorenzo is also survived by his brother Michael Ruiz, sister in law Ramona Ruiz, sister Diana Santillan, brother in law Tony Santillan, his sister Charlotte Moreno, brother in law Robert Moreno, sister Rosanna Ruiz, brother Tony Ruiz, sister Patty Estrella, brother in law Ernie Estrella, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
