He married Janet Parsons on August 24, 1974.

Mel served on the S.D.P.D. and C.H.P.

He leaves behind his wife Janet; children, Teena and Robert; brother Gene; sisters June and Babe; half-siblings Patty and Mike; grandkids and great-grandkids.

Memorial Services held September 20, 2008, at 1 p.m., at Morning Star Lutheran Church, El Cajon, CA.
