On Tuesday, August 1, 1989, retired San Diego Police Sergeant Charles W. Porter passed away from cancer.

Sergeant Porter was cremated. On Saturday, August 5, 1989, at 8:00 a.m., a memorial mass was held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2802 Cadiz Street. Internment was private.
