Deputy Director Bushey served the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) from 1991 - 2022 when he retired from active duty as a Lieutenant II. He currently remains as a Designated Level-One Reserve Officer.
During his LAPD career, his duties included patrol, field training officer, field supervisor, jail supervisor and officer-in-charge, Internal Affairs Investigator, traffic lieutenant and adjutant. Bushey’s last active duty assignment was Training Bureau.
Following his active duty retirement from the LAPD, Bushey worked as a lieutenant and Service Area Commander for a small law enforcement agency in the San Gabriel Valley.
Today, Deputy Director Bushey serves as a consultant to numerous law firms specializing in police discipline and the Police Officer Bill of Rights. He is also a well-known LAPD historian and author.
Deputy Director Bushey is a second generation law enforcement officer having followed in the footsteps of his father who had a distinguished career in law enforcement spanning nearly four decades.
Deputy Director Bushey has a deep love for San Diego and chose to become a part of the San Diego Police Museum in his retirement.
